A chairde. Rinne mé cinneadh. Ba chóir dom scríobh gach lá i nGaeilge chun é a choinneáil suas agus beidh mé á aistriú go Gearmáinis le cleachtadh a dhéanamh air chomh maith. Tá súil agam nach miste libh! Ar aon nós, ní bheidh mé ag postáil gach lá ar an suíomh seo ach ó am go ham amháin nuair a bheidh nuacht spéisiúil agam daoibhse go léir.

Ar an bpointe sin. Ar dtús, tá áthas orm chun a rá go mbeidh mo pháipéar nua ag teacht amach leis an iris Forum for Modern Language Studies (Oxford University Press) an bhliain seo chugainn ina chéad eagrán. Darb ainm ‘Character of Language and its Engine’ agus pléann sé fealsúnacht Wilhelm von Humboldt agus ról na hintinne i gcruthú teanga.

I nuacht eile faoi láthair táim ag obair ar mo chéad leabhar dar teideal Kant’s Place: Creativity, Imagination and Logic in Generative Linguistics le De Gruyter ó Bheirlín. Agus ba chóir go mbeadh sé amuigh an bhliain seo chugainn. Cuirfidh mé poist nua suas nuair a bheidh nuacht agam daoibhse faoi sin.

Chomh maith leis sin, creid nó na creid, bím ag obair ar chúpla tionscadal eile ag an am céanna. An chéad cheann is mo dhara leabhar –Kant and the Foundations of Contemporary Linguistics– agus tá sé faoi chonradh le Routledge in Oxford. Cé go bhfuil sé ag teacht le chéile go mall, sin go breá mar tá neart ama agam é a chríochnú ar aon nós! Ar mo dhara tionscadal, táim ag fiosrú an naisc idir fealsúnacht agus béaloideas agus an cheist faoi ábhar na fealsúnacht na nGael tógtha ar ár miotais féin.

Mar sin a chairde, sin mo thaighde faoi láthair. Beidh mé ag caint faoi as seo amach ar an suíomh anseo, agus beidh mé é sin a dhéanamh tríd an nGaeilge le haistriúcháin ar fáil i nGearmáinis agus i mBéarla faoi láthair.

Gearmáinis

Freunde, ich habe eine Entscheidung getroffen. Ich werde jeden Tag auf Irisch schreiben, um das beizubehalten, und ich werde es auch ins Deutsche übersetzen, um es zu üben. Ich hoffe, ihr habt nichts dagegen! Ich werde jedenfalls nicht jeden Tag auf dieser Seite posten, sondern nur ab und zu, wenn ich interessante Neuigkeiten für euch habe.

Apropos: Zu diesem Thema: Zunächst freue ich mich, Ihnen mitteilen zu können, dass mein neuer Artikel Anfang nächsten Jahres in der ersten Ausgabe von Band 62 der Fachzeitschrift „Forum for Modern Language Studies“ (Oxford University Press) erscheinen wird. Der Titel lautet „Charakter der Sprache und ihre Funktionsweise“ und behandelt die Philosophie von Wilhelm von Humboldt sowie die Rolle formaler Denkprinzipien, die sprachliche Kreativität ermöglichen.

Außerdem arbeite ich gerade an meinem ersten Buch mit dem Titel Kant’s Place: Creativity, Imagination and Logic in Generative Linguistics bei De Gruyter aus Berlin. Es soll nächstes Jahr erscheinen. Ich werde neue Beiträge veröffentlichen, sobald ich Neuigkeiten dazu habe.

Und ob Sie es glauben oder nicht, ich arbeite parallel an einigen anderen Projekten. Das erste ist mein zweites Buch –Kant and the Foundations of Contemporary Linguistics– das bei Routledge in Oxford unter Vertrag steht. Es nimmt zwar langsam Gestalt an, das ist in Ordnung, denn ich habe sowieso noch viel Zeit, es fertigzustellen! In meinem zweiten Projekt untersuche ich die Verbindung zwischen Philosophie und Folklore und die Frage, welchen Inhalt die gälische Philosophie auf unseren eigenen Mythen hat.

So, Freunde, das ist meine aktuelle Forschung. Ich werde ab sofort hier auf der Website darüber sprechen, und zwar in irischer, Übersetzungen sind derzeit auf Deutsch und Englisch verfügbar.

Friends. I have made a decision. I should write every day in Irish to keep it up and I will be translating it into German to practice it as well. I hope you don’t mind! Anyway, I won’t be posting every day on this site but only from time to time when I have interesting news for you all.

On that point. First, I am happy to say that my new paper will be coming out with the journal Forum for Modern Language Studies (Oxford Univeristy Press) in the new year in their 1st issue of volume 62. It’s called ‘Character of Language and its Engine’ and discusses the philosophy of Wilhelm von Humboldt and the role of formal principles of mind that enable linguistic creativity.

In other news I am currently working on my first book entitled Kant’s Place: Creativity, Imagination and Logic in Generative Linguistics with De Gruyter in Berlin. And it should be out next year. I will put up new posts when I have news for you about that.

Also, believe it or not, I am working on a couple of other projects at the same time. The first is my second book –Kant and the Foundations of Contemporary Linguistics– which is under contract with Routledge in Oxford. Although it is coming together slowly, that’s fine because I have plenty of time to work away on these things –– for now! On my second project, I am investigating the connection between philosophy and folklore and the question of an Irish philosophy based on our own myths.

So friends, that’s my research at the moment. I’ll be talking about it on the site here from now on, and through Irish with translations available in German and English for now.
